Models Own - Polish for Tans 2 Collection

Models Own - Polish for Tans 2 Collection Summer 2015 - Swatches and Review - www.hairnailsetc.com

When Models Own announced they were adding 5 new shades to the Polish for Tans collection I was more than a little excited. The original Polish for Tans range that was released last summer was my favourite collection of 2014 and I'm still a huge fan of neon colours so this new launch looked perfect for me.

Whereas the original five polishes could all be described as pastel neons (or maybe neons that had faded in the sun) the new collection shades are definitely brighter and bolder. Models Own say that all the colours are designed to "enhance and compliment a natural tan" which makes these the perfect nail polishes for summer. In comparison to the Ice Neon collection, these are much creamier and have a more shiny finish, but I'd still recommended a good top coat for extra shine and longevity.

FYI - I am wearing fake tan in these photographs. You can probably tell because it fades progressively with the acetone! So yes these polishes are very bright, and this can make your skin look more tanned, but I didn't want you thinking these polishes alone had turned my skin 5 shades darker!

Turquoise Sea

2 coats, no top coat.
Let's get the awkward one out the way first; this is a beautiful, creamy, bright blue with a lovely well-pigmented formula... it's just not quite neon. Of course Models Own haven't claimed that it is neon, it's just I wish it was! Also, it's a very blue-toned turquoise, there's just a hint a green. Having said that, my friend recently sent me a picture she'd taken at Lake Parón in Peru and this nail polish matched the colour of the water exactly - so what do I know?!

Cocktail Hour

2 coats, no top coat.
This is a ridiculously bright, neon coral colour. My camera practically exploded trying to photograph it. Needless to say, the colour on your screen is probably no where near true to life, so just trust me that this is one of the most vibrant polishes I've ever seen. I do expect this one will be really popular as I know lots of people like to wear coral in the summer. It would also be great for a pedicure. The formula here was a little thinner, and slightly jelly-ish, but the colour is so bright there's no way you can see any VNL.

Sarong Wrap

3 coats, no top coat.
A perfectly bright, lemon yellow. I was really looking forward to this one because I love yellow polishes (I'm actually building up quite a collection now I think about it!). I was slightly disappointed that the formula was quite thin and I needed 3 coats to build up full opacity, but the final colour more than makes up for it. In the bottle this shade looks quite warm but I think it appears lighter on the nail. Don't worry this is completely different to Bikini from the original PFT collection and you definitely need both.

Malibu Pink

2 coats, no top coat.
Next is this bright, neon pastel pink shade. The formula is OK, but I found it needed two fairly generous coats to be fully opaque. As you can see, the colour is a brilliant Barbie-shade of pink and I imagine it would look good on most skin tones.

However... this is the one polish of the set that I was reluctant to buy because it looks extremely similar to Sun Hat from the 2014 collection. I was in a frivolous mood so I bought it anyway but now I've compared them I can see I was right. Malibu Pink is slightly more cool-toned than Sun Hat but the difference is tiny. I'd say unless you're a polish addict, you probably don't need both.

Beach Hut

2 coats, no top coat.
Just like Cocktail Hour, this neon orange polish is crazy bright! I'd call it 'traffic cone' orange but that doesn't sound particularly glamorous. The formula was well pigmented and easy to apply. I absolutely love this one, it's just a shame I can't capture the full effect on camera.

There we go. In case you can't tell, I'm really happy with this collection - definitely has the potential to be my favourite of the year again! I'm hoping to get plenty of use out of these polishes over the summer and I can't wait to try some nail art with them. My top picks would be Sarong Wrap, Cocktail Hour and, my favourite, Beach Hut

What do you think? Do you love neon polishes as much as I do?

    1. Thanks for your comment Amy. I don't really get much of a tan naturally (only out of a bottle) but I'm sure on other bronzed people they will look amazing! x
