Mani Swap with My Mint Nails

I'm so excited to write this post because this is my first ever Mani Swap! The lovely Sarah from My Mint Nails has recreated one of my nail art designs, and I've had a go at one of hers.

It was so tricky trying to pick just one manicure from all of Sarah's amazing designs, in the end I went for this awesome cloud print nail art. Sarah was actually inspired by a pair of very cool trainers! You can read her original post here. I loved the cute little clouds and the yellow ruffian, it also gave my a chance to use my new favourite yellow nail polish. As you can see, Sarah has a very different nail shape to me so I was a bit nervous about how this would turn out, but I'm really happy with the result.

First I painted all my nails with three coats of yellow nail polish and allowed them to dry completely. Next I carefully painted the blue polish on top, leaving a curved gap at the base of the nail. Once that was dry I used a black nail art pen to draw around the edge of the blue polish. Finally I used a white polish and a couple of different-sized dotting tools to create the clouds. I'm not sure if you can tell but I did not use top coat over this design. I would have liked to because I always think top coat gives a more professional finish, but when I tried to use it the black nail art pen streaked and bled into the blue section! This was even after I'd left all the polish to dry properly and I was very gentle with the top coat brush. So I really do not recommend the Models Own nail art pens... I told Sarah what had happened and she suggested the Barry M pens, so I'm going to be trying those next time!

Polishes Used

  • Rimmel - Chin Up, Buttercup (swatch and review here)
  • Models Own Nail Art Pen - Black
  • Barry M Nail Paint - Blueberry Ice Cream
  • Barry M Gelly Nail Paint - Cotton

I really loved doing this mani swap, it was so much fun and Sarah was so nice to work with! Make sure you head over to her blog and read her post; she has recreated my camouflage print nails and I think they look amazing!
