Nautical Nail Art - A First Attempt

Nautical nail art with stripes, using Rimmel White Hot Love nail polish - www.hairnailsetc.blogspot.co.uk / ig@amyforsythe

As a lover of bold colours and stripes, nautical themed nail art seems an obvious choice for me. I'm quite surprised I haven't tried it before now. And since I've recently acquired a few red nail polishes, here was a good chance to try them out.

Of course what I didn't realise was that in my excitement to try out new nail polishes, I would completely forget how to do the most basic things; like apply striping tape properly. So yes there are a few smudges on the edges of my nails :(

The item that inspired this design was a little anchor shaped paper cutter I picked up in HEMA (that magical shop of many things - link). First I painted a patch of gold polish on to some release paper, waited for it to dry, then peeled the polish off and punched an anchor shape out of it with the cutter. It kind of worked... I think a bit more testing is required first before I can really recommend this technique.

Polishes Used

  • Rimmel - White Hot Love (base colour under the stripes)
  • OPI - Keeping Suzi At Bay (for the blue stripes)
  • L'Oréal Color Riche - Exquisite Scarlet
  • Sinful Colors - Blue By You (base colour under the blue glitter)
  • Models Own - Bluebelle (blue glitter)
  • Models Own - Gold Rush

Finally, this manicure made me realise I need to invest in some nail studs. That would be nice for next time.
