Oh Barry M I do love you. Their range of Gelly polishes is so popular, and for good reason - great colours with an easy formula and a high shine finish. And now they've added some exciting new Autumnal colours to the collection, with a warm and spicy theme that couldn't be more appropriate for this time of year.
There are six polishes in the set, all "inspired by the colours and spices from far-away lands" that will "transport you to the Moroccan desert". To start with I picked these three, but after swatching them I'm keen to go back and purchase the other half. These colours might not be to everyone's taste but I love how unusual they are, and they are all unique in my stash.
This is Mustard, a very appropriately named mustard shade of yellow. I used two coats and no top coat. I was a little nervous about this colour but I loved it on my nails. The formula was a little thick, like most of the Gelly polishes, but it is self-levelling and is easy to work with. Most yellow polishes are awfully thin but this was fully opaque in two coats.
Next is Cocoa, a rich, dark, chocolate-y brown. This is just delicious, all I could think about while I was painting was this looks like I've dipped my nails in Nutella! I used two coats and no top coat, and as you can see the finish is perfect. I hate it when dark colours look black but this is definitely brown, and I predict it will look great with gold glitter.
Lastly here is Chilli, a slightly-darker-than-average red - exactly like a red chilli pepper. Again, I used two coats and no top coat. I'm not normally a fan of red nail polish, I actually don't own a plain red, but this I do like, probably because it reminds me of chilli - I think we've learnt today that any polish related to food is a winner for me!
Overall I'm extremely happy with these polishes. All three were highly pigmented, needing just two thin coats for full opacity. The Gelly formula has a nice, slightly thick consistency and gives a smooth shiny finish, without the need for top coat. However I would recommend a fast-drying top coat if you're in a hurry or if you want your manicure to last a few days. Most importantly, I love the colours, and I would definitely recommend them if you're after an easy way to update your look for Autumn. Plus these polishes are on 3 for 2 at both Boots and Superdrug at the moment, so it's a perfect excuse to treat yourself.
