A little TK Maxx Haul - Real Techniques, Orly, Models Own

Continuing with yesterday's bargain-hunter theme, I thought I'd share my recent beauty finds from TK Maxx.

As you probably know, the range of stock in each TK Maxx shop can vary and certain locations seem to be a lot better than others for beauty products. So I can't say for sure whether these particular items are available at your local shop, but of course you might find something even better! Personally I love to wander into any TK Maxx when I'm passing and just have a nosy round, and typically every now and then I'll find something I can't leave without!

Real Techniques Duo-Fibre Collection - £16.99

This brand needs no introduction! I'm no makeup expert (my nail polish collection far outweighs my lipstick one) but even I know these brushes are amazing. I was given the Core Collection for Christmas last year, which made an exciting upgrade from the 8 year old freebie brushes I'd been using, and when I saw this Duo-Fibre set I couldn't resist. The trio consists of a face brush, contour brush and eye brush. According to the box, these "ultra plush synthetic brushes" can be used to "create soft layers and add texture" and "look pixel perfect even in harsh light". The quality is good, I've washed the brushes once since buying them and they feel as good as new, although they did take ages to dry. What I love most about this brand is that the creators, Sam and Nic Chapman, provide online video tutorials to explain exactly how to use the brushes, which is great for clueless people like me!

Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Hardener - £2.99

I actually picked this up for my mum, since some naughty person had pinched her Nail Envy... *cough cough!* If applied everyday, it's supposed to help prevent chipping, splitting and cracking. I can't speak for her, but I've been painting it on my my mum's nails for the past week and from what I can see they at least don't seem to be getting any worse. I would be surprised if this works as effectively as OPI Nail Envy but we will give it a chance for a few more weeks and see what happens.

Save the Nail Eau So Hydrated Base Coat - £4.99

This one is for me! I finished my mum's my bottle of Nail Envy a couple of months ago and now I'm currently on the hunt for a new base coat. My nails are much stronger than they used to be so I don't feel like I need another intense strengthening treatment, but I have noticed they're now so hard, they are almost brittle. I chose this moisturising base coat from Save The Nail (which is actually part of the Nails Inc brand) and so far I'm pleased with it. It's a very thin formula so I still use a ridge filler over the top but it has helped to just 'take the edge off' my nails so they have a bit of flex in them.

Models Own Tangerine Queen - £2.99

This bright orange nail polish caught my eye, it looks almost neon and since the Models Own Ice Neon collection is missing an orange, I thought this would fill that gap. I didn't recognise the name of this particular polish, but now I've checked the Models Own website I can see there is one that looks suspiciously similar - Fluro' Orange - so maybe they just changed the name? I'm not sure but I'm happy to have it anyway!

Orly Elation Generation - £2.99

Lastly, I chose this pink glitter polish by Orly. I love Orly polishes, especially the chunky bottles with the grippy handles, but they're quite hard to find in shops. This polish is so girly and wonderful; its a lovely coral-pink colour filled with tiny silver holographic glitter. It was quite hard to capture the holo effect on camera, you can just about see it in the second photo, but I'm just hoping it shows up well on the nail - swatches to come!
